Nebraska men’s basketball nearly took a third 30 point loss for the season Friday.
The Huskers (6-12, 0-7 Big Ten) fell behind at No. 7 Purdue (14-2, 3-2 Big Ten) 17-2 early. Both Bryce McGowens and Derrick Walker had a pair of fouls just over three minutes into the game, contributing to the Boilermaker run.
But for the rest of the half, Nebraska played even with Purdue. CJ Wilcher hit two 3s in the final 30 seconds to send NU into halftime down 48-33.
The second half saw Purdue slowly stretch the lead to as much as 30 en route to the 92-65 final.
Purdue outscored Nebraska for points off turnovers (28-7), second chance points (21-4), and points in the paint (46-24). One of Nebraska’s only advantages in the game came from the 3 point line, where the Huskers shot 42 percent (8-of-19) compared to 31 percent (9-of-29) for the home team.
A trio of Huskers scored in double figures, with Keisei Tominaga leading the way at 11 points. Alonzo Verge Jr. and Wilcher each added 10 points.
Nebraska returns home Monday to host Indiana.
