The Lincoln Police Department’s Crime Analysis Unit reports there were 28 catalytic converter thefts reported from January 1st through the 11th this year. There were 10 thefts in that same time period in 2021.
The report shows that 64% of the thefts were were from Honda and Kia vehicles. Six were from Honda Elements and 5 were from Kia Sportages.
Twenty-four, or 86% were from model years 2001 to 2009. The majority, 67%, were taken from vehicles parked on residential streets.
The damage and loss to vehicle owners total approximately $42,000.
