Republican Nebraska U-S Congressman Jeff Fortenberry announced Monday morning he is running for re-election. Fortenberry’s announcement was made in a YouTube video while sitting in his 1963 Ford F-150 pickup truck with his wife and dog by his side.
Fortenberry didn’t directly address his ongoing legal case. Prosecutors allege he misled federal authorities who were investigating an illegal contribution to his campaign. Fortenberry has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is scheduled to go to trial in February.
Fortenberry pointed to several successes he’s had this past year, including his ALS bill being signed into law in December. He will face several challengers for his seat in Congress, including state senator Patty Pansing Brooks and political activist Jazari Kual.
Fortenberry is seeking his 10th term in Congress.
