Lincoln Fire and Rescue and Lincoln Police were called to an apartment building fire in the 300 block of North 32nd Street around 5 a.m. on January 1st.
Both agencies worked to evacuate residents. LFR crews were working to get the fire under control when 19 year old Angelo Lorot started to interfere with their work. Lorot was taken into custody so firefighters could battle the blaze. Lorot then made statements indicating he may had been involved in starting the fire. A lighter was found on him and witnesses saw Lorot in the area just before the fire.
Investigators determined a recliner chair in the basement had intentionally been set on fire. Damage to the building is estimated at $50,000. No one was injured in the fire.
Lorot was booked for 1st degree arson.
