Dozens of impaired drivers were taken off the road during the holiday season. Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol wrapped up the annual “Drive Sober or get Pulled Over” campaign with 60 arrests for driving under the influence.
“Every DUI arrest has the potential of saving lives,” said Colonel John Bolduc, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “Planning ahead to have a sober driver has the same potential.”
The campaign ran from December 17th through January 1st. Troopers and dispatchers statewide worked overtime during the holiday season to reduce the risk of serious injury or fatal accidents.
Troopers also issued more than 700 citations for speeding. In 63 cases, the driver was traveling at 100 miles an hour or more. Troopers also issued 75 citations for driving under suspension, 27 for a minor in possession of alcohol, 35 for having an open container of alcohol, 36 for no proof of insurance, 17 for no seat belt use, and 8 for improper child restraint.
Troopers also performed 628 motorist assists during the campaign.
“Every DUI arrest has the potential of saving lives,” said Colonel John Bolduc, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “Planning ahead to have a sober driver has the same potential.”
The campaign was made possible in part to a $26,500 grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation-Highway Safety Office.
