The National Weather Service is recommending people prepare for possible hazardous travel conditions starting Friday night through Saturday.

Plowable snowfall is expected Saturday. Snow will start late Friday evening and end Saturday evening. Many areas will receive 4 inches or more of snowfall, especially along and south of I-80.

Snow may fall throughout the day on Saturday. Blowing snow will reduce visibilities and roads are expected to become snow covered and slick. Travel may become difficult, especially in southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa.

Bitter cold temperatures and cold wind chills are in the forecast Friday evening through Sunday. Wind chills on New Year’s celebrations will range from -5 to -15 degrees. Winds from the north will blow 20 mph with gusts around 30 mph Saturday morning.

Remember to keep skin covered, dress in layers and limit outdoor activity.
