Lincoln City crews are gearing up for a potential major winter storm on New Year’s Eve.  “We’re getting our snow plows mounted up, going through all of our equipment, doing operational checks to make sure everything is ready to go,” says Tim Byrne, Maintenance Operations Manager for Lincoln Transportation and Utilities.

The National Weather Service says snowfall amounts could range from two to six inches.  There will also be winds of 25-30 miles per hour Friday night into Saturday which could cause travel problems and temperatures are expected to drop to near zero.

Byrne says the first round of preparation work begins Friday morning.  “We’ll roll out early Friday morning with an anti icing pre-treatment.  Then when crews finish up with those routes, they’ll get the trucks cleaned up and turned around and ready for the possibility of plowing snow.”

He’s encouraging residents to help them out by keeping vehicles off the streets.  “Move your cars into the driveway, into the garage.  In the downtown area if there’s a parking garage that you can utilize.  Anytime you can get your vehicle out of the way for the street to be plowed helps us to come through more efficiently,” Byrne says.
