The People’s City Mission will host a memorial ceremony Tuesday night for the 19 homeless people who died this past year. Pastor Tom Barber says the national ceremony coincides with the winter solstice, the longest night of the year.
“We just try to let the homeless know that when they pass away they’re going to be remembered and if they want an actual funeral, we’ll do it and scatter their ashes and they’re just not going to be forgotten once they pass away, that means a lot to them,” says pastor Tom Barber.
He says the ceremony will begin at 7:00. “We invite the public to come if they’d like to, or if then knew somebody who was homeless make sure we get their name and come and remember them. We would love to have anyone interested show up.”
He says there will be music and each of the 19 names will be read. Barber says those names will then be added to their memorial wall.
