A plan to build a large solar farm in eastern Lancaster County was met with opposition at Tuesday’s County Board meeting.  Residents are concerned about a number of issues from fires to land values.

“Now I have to worry about how this will halt northeast Lincoln’s growth and make it difficult to sell our home if it ever came to it,” one woman told the board. “Who would want to build or buy a home in that area surrounded by millions of solar panels?  I know I personally would not.

Josh Bulow also spoke out during the public hearing saying he has been opposed to the project from the start. “All that’s been talked about is it’s going to gain taxes it’s going to make money for these people.  What about the people that have actually tried to make this their home?  I am a father and a husband and I’ve got to protect my family.”

The Ranger Power project would be the largest solar farm in Nebraska, covering about five square miles.  The farm would be west of 148th to 190th from Holdrege to Havelock.

The board will vote on an appeal to the project on Thursday, December 16th.
