Former Husker QB Joseph Returning as Coach

By Kaleb Henry Dec 3, 2021 | 12:08 PM

The first of four hires is complete for head coach Scott Frost.

Frost announced Friday that another former Nebraska quarterback would be joining his staff: Mickey Joseph. Pending a background check, Joseph will join the Nebraska coaching staff as Wide Receivers Coach/Passing Game Coordinator/Associate Head Coach.

“I am honored to return to Nebraska to join Coach Frost’s staff,” Joseph said in a release. “I can’t wait to get to Lincoln to work with our players and represent Nebraska Football. Once you are a Husker your love for the program never leaves you and my family and I could not be more excited.”

Joseph has spent the past five seasons as the wide receivers coach at LSU. While there, he developed some of the nation’s top receivers, including the 2019 national champion group of Ja’Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson and Terrace Marshall. That trio combined for 241 receptions for 3,991 yards and 51 touchdowns and is regarded as the best group of receivers in SEC history.

“Mickey Joseph brings a wealth of experience and expertise to our coaching staff,” Frost said. “He is an excellent teacher and mentor for young players and is a proven recruiter. We are excited to bring Mickey back to his alma mater and have him play a key role in the success of our offense.”

Originally from New Orleans, Joseph first came to Lincoln in 1988 as the Gatorade National Player of the Year. His Husker career included nine starts, with 1,091 yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground and 909 yards and 14 touchdowns through the air.

Frost now has three open positions on his staff.
