Attorney General Doug Peterson announced the launch of the Consumer Affairs Response Team. It was created to address the growing need to protect consumers from frauds, scams,, unfair, and deceptive business practices. They will provide one-on-one support to consumers also dealing with identity theft.
There is a growing need for dispute resolutions between consumers and businesses. Since the pandemic started there has been a 65% increase in identity theft reports and a 27% increase in fraud and scams, according to the FTC.
Consumers can contact the team online at ProtectTheGoodLife.Nebraska.gov. They can also call the Attorney General’s office at (402) 471-2682 (toll-free: 800-727-6432). Complaint forms are also available by mail.
The team will also help customers interested in taking measures against future scams and offer Consumer Protection Kits that include information on scams, reducing unwanted calls, and how to protect against identity theft. The kits can be requested online or by calling the Attorney General’s Office.
