A man is facing charges after a Lincoln Police officer spotted a white 2008 Lincoln MKX driving recklessly through the Haymarket at a high rate of speed around 2 a.m. Sunday.

The vehicle stopped near 10th and P Street. A man got out of the passenger door and ran. The officer saw the man was holding a handgun as he gave chase. Other officers were called to the area and the man was located in the alley north of 11 and P Street.

23 year old Tyson Ewings was taken into custody without further incident. The handgun was located in the parking garage at 11th and Q Street. Officers found a baggie on Ewings that tested positive for cocaine. A loaded magazine from the handgun Ewings was seen carrying was found in the vehicle.

Ewings was booked for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a stolen firearm, resisting arrest 2nd subsequent offense, and tampering with physical evidence.

The firearm had been inside a vehicle that was stolen on August 8th from the 300 block of N 44th Street. Keys to that vehicle had been left in the ignition. The vehicle was recovered on August 13th but the handgun was missing.
