The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services will hold adoption events across the state Saturday, November 20, 2021 to celebrate Adoption Awareness Month in Nebraska.

Lancaster County will celebrate Adoption Day from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Lancaster County Courthouse. There will be 17 adoptions and two guardianships taking place. All children that were adopted in 2021 will receive backpacks filled with gifts. Adoptive families will also receive gift bags. There will be food and games for all who attend.

A number of adoptions will also take place at the Omaha – Douglas Civic Center on Saturday.

Antelope, Cuming, Knox, Madison, Pierce, Stanton and Wayne Counties in northern Nebraska will be sending letters to all 2020 and 2021 adoptive families outlining their plans for hosting in-person celebrations in 2022. Those families will receive a gift certificate for pizza to celebrate.

In central and western Nebraska, adoptive families are invited to a movie at the World Theater in Kearney on Saturday at 11 a.m. The Children Services Permanency Team will provide popcorn and snacks. Region III will distribute gift bags to those attending.

Adams, Clay, Franklin, Harlan, Kearney, Nuckolls, Phelps and Webster Counties will celebrate with adoptive families by distributing gift baskets.
