The United States Postal Service is expecting shipping volume to increase this holiday season.  Spokesman Mark Inglett tells KLIN News to make the process run more efficiently they have installed 112 machines throughout the country.

He says each machine can process up to 3,200 packages an hour.  “We’ve also leased 46 annexes across the country all of them within five miles of large processing facilities and that can help ensure smooth transportation and no delays.”

Inglett is encouraging people to send their packages earlier this year.  The deadline to send Christmas cards is December 17.  For priority mail the deadline is December 18 and for Priority Express it’s December 23.

To make things more convenient and less stressful you can send packages without leaving your home.  Inglett says go to their website usps.com and look for “click and ship.”   He says you can create your postage label, put it on the package, and then you can schedule a pickup time as it gets closer to the time you want to mail it.

“We’ll come to your home, you just set them out there on the porch.  We’ll pickup your packages free of charge and take them to the post office as long as you printed your postage online,” Inglett says.
