November Vehicle Thefts Up 66%

By Karla James Nov 12, 2021 | 11:53 AM

Lincoln Police are reporting an increase of vehicle thefts in November. So far this month, thefts are up 66% compared to the same time in October.

Police report 24% of the vehicles stolen were left running and 28% had been left unlocked. Thirty-two percent of the thefts happened at apartment complexes and 32% were from businesses. As of Thursday, November 11th, vehicle thefts total 36. Seventeen of those thefts happened between Sunday and Thursday. There were a total 55 vehicle thefts in October.

Lincoln Police remind drivers to never leave a running vehicle unattended. Always lock the doors and remove keys and valuables. As the weather turns colder, people will want to warm up their vehicle or keep it running if they go into a business. LPD says exhaust can be seen from a distance away and these vehicles are a target for theft.
