Collisions involving deer are on the rise.

Lancaster County Sheriff Terry Wagner states year-to-date, there were 157 collisions with deer in the county in 2020 compared to 176 in 2021. That is a 13% increase.

Wagner says, “With sunrise and sunset being pretty close to commute times, that is when deer is most active. With the harvest going on, corn and soybeans, that pushes deer and makes them more mobile. Firearm hunting season will be here in a few weeks so people need to remember that deer will be pretty active this time of year and need to be cautious.”

Rut will also start soon and deer will be on the move. Use extra caution in rural areas, especially at dusk and dawn.
