A battle of top 10 teams with the Big Ten Conference lead Wednesday went the way it has several times in recent years: for Wisconsin.
The No. 3 Badgers (18-1, 10-1 Big Ten) swept No. 6 Nebraska (16-4, 10-1 Big Ten) 26-24, 25-19, 25-23 to takeover the top spot in the conference. Wisconsin has swept Nebraska in their last four matches and has won the last six meetings.
Nebraska was held to .148 hitting while Wisconsin tallied .229. A big reason for the Badgers’ advantage was double-digit kills from Anna Smrek and Dana Rettke, with Smrek hitting .647 for the match.
No Huskers reached double figures for kills, as Madi Kubik, Lindsay Krause, and Lauren Stivrins each notched nine. Kayla Kaffey had eight kills to got with a match-high five blocks.
The Huskers are now 3-4 against top 25 teams and 1-2 against top 10 teams this season. Nebraska and Wisconsin will meet again Nov. 26 in Madison.
Nebraska will head on the road Saturday to face No. 11 Minnesota (13-6, 8-3 Big Ten).
