AFL-CIO Joining Picket Line At Omaha Kellogg’s Plant

By Karla James Oct 26, 2021 | 3:15 PM

The Nebraska State AFL-CIO is proud to announce that National AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler will be at the Omaha Kellogg’s plant (9601 F Street) on, Thursday October 28th from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. walking in solidarity with members of BCTGM Local 50G.

On October 5, 2021, 1,400 BCTGM members at Kellogg’s cereal plants in Battle Creek, MI, Omaha, NE, Lancaster, Pennsylvania and Memphis, TN went on strike.

Kellogg’s proposes two-tiers of employment: New hires will make less money, have higher health insurance payments and will not earn a pension. Two-Tier Concessions: Currently 30 percent of the Kellogg’s workforce would pay higher health care costs, lose access to retirement benefits, and never be able to attain the same status as current full-time Kellogg’s employees. Other Kellogg’s proposed take-a-ways: Premium health care benefits, retirement benefits, holiday & vacation pay, cost-of-living wage increases, moving production to Mexico and removal of the union label from all cereal boxes.

President Shuler: “So many companies have profited off the backs of workers during this pandemic. It’s time for working people to get our fair share. Striking workers are fighting for all of us, and with the solidarity of the labor movement behind them, they will win.”

In case of severe weather, the event will be moved to the  Steamfitters & Plumbers Union Hall located at 3375 Oakview Dr., Omaha.
