By Tom Stanton Oct 22, 2021 | 3:45 PM

The Nebraska State Patrol has released the names of the two victims who were shot and killed Thursday afternoon at the Agrex Inc. grain elevator in Superior. The victims are identified as 60 year old Sandra Nelson of Formoso, Kansas and 53 year old Darin Koepke of Hadar, Nebraska.  Both were employees of

The patrol says Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene.  Koepke was flown to Bryan Health West Campus in Lincoln where he was later pronounced dead.   A third victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at the hospital in Superior and released Thursday afternoon.

A preliminary investigation found that 61-year-old Max Hoskinson, of Superior, was fired Thursday.  The patrol says he came back around 2:00 p.m. and shot the three people before an employee retrieved a shotgun and shot Hoskinson, who died at the hospital in Superior.  “It’s likely that the employees actions may have prevented further loss of life in this tragedy,” says NSP Commander Jeff Roby.

The patrol says after consulting with the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office and the Nuckolls County Attorney’s Office, no charges are anticipated in relation to the employee who returned fire in protection of himself and other innocent people who were present at the time of the incident.

The names of other individuals involved in this incident are being withheld at this time due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.   A prayer vigil will be held Sunday evening in the Superior bandshell at 7:00 p.m.
