Investigators say an electrical problem sparked Tuesday afternoon’s fire at a two story 12-plex apartment building near 10th and Washington. There was heavy fire coming from the window of a 2nd story bedroom window when firefighters arrived around 1:10 p.m.
The fire made it’s way into the living room and up into the attic area. Due to the size of the building a second alarm was called. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames.
Damage to the apartment where the fire started is estimated at $300,000 with water and smoke damage to the apartments below. Investigators credit working smoke detectors for alerting residents and allowing them to safely escape.
