Gov Pete Ricketts

Governor Pete Ricketts joined governors of Arizona, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Montana, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Wyoming in Texas today to address the border crisis.

Ricketts says this plan work will to help us stem this mass migration into this country. One is to end the “catch and release” program that is an incentive for people to enter this country illegally. That also is causing a health crisis across this country.

Ricketts says, “Eighteen-percent of the families that are coming here illegally and being released are testing positive for coronavirus, COVID-19. When it comes to unaccompanied minors, it is 20%. I think there is a report out there that the Biden Administration may have had put up to 40,000 COVID positive people here into our cities here in the United States”.

Ricketts says the Biden Administration must resource this border with more customs and border patrol and with National Guard units. Four previous administrations deployed troops to the border so this is nothing new. Ricketts says that can be done under Title 10 so states do not foot the bill.

Ricketts says the 10 point proposed plan will work because it has worked before.

  • Continue Title 42 public health restrictions
  • Fully reinstate the Migrant Protocol Protections
  • Finish securing the borer
  • End catch and release
  • Clear the judicial backlog
  • Resume the deportation of all criminals
  • Dedicate federal resources to eradicate human trafficking and drug trafficking
  • Re-enter all agreements with our Northern Triangle partners and Mexico
  • Send a clear message to potential migrants
  • Deploy more federal law enforcement officers
