Nebraska lawmakers on Thursday passed a series of redistricting bills as the special session came to an end. One of the proposals is LB 3, which establishes new boundaries for each of the 49 legislative districts in the state. The bill moves District 36 from central Nebraska to southwestern Sarpy County, including Springfield and Gretna.
Portions of the former district that included Custer and Dawson Counties and and a part of Buffalo County are now in districts 41, 43 and 44. Several legislative districts in the city of Lincoln and Lancaster County have also been changed.
The northern portion of District 25, including Waverly, moves to District 21. The portion of District 25 that includes part of northeast Lincoln now moves to District 2, which includes Cass County.
A portion of south Lincoln shifts to the east and is now in District 30, which includes Gage County and a portion of southern Lancaster County. In the Omaha area a portion of northwestern Douglas County, which includes Valley, moves from District 39 to District 15. That district includes Dodge County.
Lincoln State Senator Adam Morfeld tells KLIN News he’s not happy with the outcome of the special session. ” I do not overall think the maps were fair. I think that what ended up happening in Lancaster County was fair given the circumstances of us not getting an additional urban seat. That was the best we could do.”
