Lincoln Parks and Recreation reminds visitors to Pioneers Park that running competitions and other events may cause increased traffic and result in restricted access to the bridle paths, parking areas, and access drives.
Running events on the following dates will require that the Tallgrass Meadow bridle path loop (blue) be closed:
- September 25, 26, 30
- October 1, 2, 3, 5, 9, 10, 12, 14, 22, 24
- December 8
“Many park visitors enjoy using trails during these early autumn days. We are pleased to partner with area school cross country teams that use the mowed trails in Pioneers Park for their competitions. Our staff work to ensure a positive experience while visiting Lincoln’s parks. We appreciate the public being flexible and accommodating to the additional visitors during the cross country season,” said Lynn Johnson, Director of Parks and Recreation.
There are 2.6 miles of bridle paths that traverse Pioneers Park. Riders are reminded that horses are not allowed past the arches at the Pioneers Park Nature Center on the far west end of the park. Equestrian trails are also available in Wilderness Park. Wilderness Park parking lots on South First Street, south of Pioneers Boulevard and on South 14th Street south of Yankee Hill Road are capable of allowing horse trailers to maneuver.
More information, including event dates in Pioneers Park that will affect access and limit use, and information about best practices when using trails and bridle paths in Pioneers and Wilderness parks, can be found at lincoln.ne.gov/trails.
