Lincoln Fire and Rescue were kept busy over the long holiday weekend.  A pair of fires left several people without a home and caused an estimated $25,000 in damage

The first was at 48th and Leighton around 8:00 Saturday morning.  The cause was careless smoking that started in a mattress.  Nine residents in the building had to be relocated. Damage is estimated at 10-thousand dollars.

The second fire happened around noon on Sunday at a house that had been converted into several apartments at 32nd and Holdrege.  LFR’s Nancy Crist says it was an electrical fire and caused about 15-thousand damage.

Residents in nine apartments had to be relocated.
