Marine From Omaha Among 13 Killed In Afghanistan

A 23-year-old Marine from Omaha was among the 13 U.S. service members killed in the attack at the Kabul airport in Afghanistan. The family of Cpl. Daegan William-Tyeler Page said in a statement that he was part of the 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines based in Camp Pendleton, California.

Page was raised in Red Oak, Iowa, and the Omaha metro area.  He graduated from Millard The family said he is mourned by his parents, stepmother and stepfather, four siblings, a girlfriend and grandparents. The bombing was blamed on Afghanistan’s offshoot of the Islamic State group.

“Our hearts are broken, but we are thankful for the friends and family who are surrounding us at this time,” the family statement read.  After the Marines, Page planned on going to a local trade school and possibly becoming a lineman.

His family says he was a genuinely happy guy. “Daegan always looked forward to coming home and hanging out with family and many buddies from Nebraska.”

Nebraska’s congressional leaders reacted to Page’s death.  “I am heartbroken to learn of the death of Corporal Page, one of the U.S. Marines killed in Afghanistan,” U.S. Congressman Don Bacon said in a statement.  “No words can express the devastation, frustration, and sorrow his family is experiencing right now.  Corporal Page is an American hero who gave the last full measure of devotion. He served his country honorably, and his service will never be in vain.”
