A child playing with a lighter is being blamed for causing a fire in a third floor apartment near 14th and Superior around 1:15 Thursday afternoon.
LFR Captain Nancy Crist says when they arrived they found a couch on fire. “The positive thing that came out of this is that the sprinkler system did activate and kept that fire to that room and contents. That could have been a much different outcome.
Damage is estimated at $5,000 and Crist says it’s primarily from water damage to the unit and others on the floors below. An adult and the child that live there were displaced.
