Coach Scott Frost said this week that the team captains would be released soon. The team made them public Saturday evening.
The four captains for the 2021 season are Austin Allen, Damion Daniels, Adrian Martinez, and Cam Taylor-Britt.
Allen has played in 32 games at Nebraska, including 12 starts. The three-time All-Big Ten honoree is on watch lists for the Mackey Award (nation’s best tight end) and the Senior Bowl.
Damion joins his brother Darrion (2019) as members of the Daniels family to be named captain. They are the ninth brothers to serve as Husker captains, and the first since the Steinkuhler duo of Ty (2008) and Baker (2012). The younger Daniels has played in 32 career games and is on the Senior Bowl watch list.
Martinez is the first three-time captain in program history. In his previous three seasons as the starting quarterback, he has completed better than 64 percent of his passes in his career, throwing for 5,628 yards while adding 1,776 rushing yards and accounting for 53 total touchdowns. Martinez is on preseason watch lists for the Maxwell Award, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, and Senior Bowl.
Taylor-Britt has not only been a lockdown corner, leading the team with four pass breakups in 2020, he was also the top punt returner for the team last season. He has 16 career starts to his name and is on the Senior Bowl watch list.
Nebraska opens the season Saturday at Illinois.
