Elective surgeries at Bryan Health are on hold for 30 days as a way to prevent patient overcrowding. President and CEO John Woodrich says COVID-19 hospitalizations continue to rise and they are full.  On Tuesday they had 578 patients.

Elective surgeries at Bryan Health are on hold for 30 days as a way to prevent patient overcrowding as COVID-19 hospitalizations continue to rise. “We were holding 30 patients in the emergency department waiting for an inpatient bed to free up,” says President and CEO John Woodrich.  “And at that same time we had 14 other hospitals that were holding patients that they wanted to refer into Bryan.”

Woodrich says any elective surgery that requires an overnight stay and has not already been scheduled will be postponed for 30 days and will not be scheduled until further notice.  He says outpatient surgeries and any surgeries that were already scheduled will go forward.

Bryan is currently operating four COVID-19 units with others with the virus sprinkled throughout the hospital.
