One year ago, Officer Mario Herrera was shot in the line of duty. Despite receiving many blood transfusions and phenomenal care from our local hospitals, Officer Herrera did not survive his injuries.
Today his friends and family, in partnership with Lincoln Police Department, Lincoln Fire & Rescue, Omaha Fire Department, the Omaha Police Officers Association and Nebraska Concerns of Police Survivors want to give back in his honor and invite you to a special 12 Days of Hope campaign to help save lives.
With the help of life-sustaining blood given by generous donors, Mario and his family were given 12 extra days together following his tragic event before he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
From August 26–September 7, give blood at your local donor center or blood drive and you’ll receive a free special-edition 12 Days of Hope t-shirt.
There are two public blood drives planned: (Appointments are encouraged)
