Lincoln Police arrested a man Friday evening who was wanted on a federal arrest warrant.   LPD investigators were in the 500 block of Eldora around 5:30 p.m. when they saw 27 year old John Belot approach a house in the area.

As they attempted to contact Belot, he tossed a backpack while running from officers.  Investigators apprehended Belot after a brief chase.  They found a loaded .22 Berretta inside the backpack.  The gun was confirmed to have been stolen in a burglary in Grant’s Pass, Oregon.

Investigators also located 8.8 grams of a substance that pre-tested positive for methamphetamine in the backpack along with a digital scale, smoking pipes with methamphetamine residue and a Glock magazine containing 9 mm rounds.

Inside Belot’s pockets were an additional 1.4 grams of suspected methamphetamine, $510 in U.S. currency and several identification cards that did not belong to Belot.

Investigators cited and booked Belot for Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver, Possession of Money While Violating a Controlled Substance Statute, Possession of a Firearm while Violating a Controlled Substance Statute, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
