City Council Approves Teresa Ewins As Next Lincoln Police Chief

By Tom Stanton Jul 19, 2021 | 4:28 PM

Teresa Ewins is officially the next Police Chief for the City of Lincoln. The City Council voted 7-0 Monday afternoon to approve Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird’s selection.

Ewins told the council she’s looking forward to starting the next chapter in her career.  “I look forward to really doing everything I can to make sure everybody from the community to LPD that there is transparency, that there is a working relationship that I will listen to everything that is being said.”

Ewins, a San Francisco Police commander, was selected by the mayor after she and three other finalists appeared at public forums in late June.   Councilman James Michael Bowers cast one of the seven votes to approve Ewins.  “There was this overall theme of right person at the right time for the right community.”

Ewins will start her new job August 30 and will be the City’s first female police chief.
