More than five hundred Lincoln-Lancaster County residents will be able to stay cool this summer thanks to the donation of box fans from Westlake ACE Hardware stores. The stores recently hosted a fan drive where customers rounded up their bill or made donations at the register. Nearly $7,300 was raised to pay for the 503 new box fans.
“It just stirs my heart to know that there are people in our community that really care and want to make a difference through Westlake Ace Hardware,” says Salvation Army Major Mark Anderson. He says fans will be handed out to anyone who needs one. “Whether their seniors, families with small children, individuals who are just struggling financially right now, this will really be cool literally for them.”
Brent Applegate is a Westlake general manager and is pleased with how customers stepped up. “The community just pulled together and made it all work. It’s fantastic how it ended up for us.” Fans can be picked up at the Salvation Army at 27th and Holdrege
