An 18 year old wanted in a crime spree dating back to May 18th is behind bars. Shots were fired by a someone in he back seat of a vehicle hat hit a van causing $800 in damage. This happened in the 2600 block of J Street. Video surveillance showed the shots were fired by someone in a red Chevy Traverse and they were able to identify the suspect.
On May 25th at 10:24 p.m., police tried to arrest Jaheim Barnes during a traffic stop at South 77th and A. Several people ran from the vehicle. Inside, police found a handgun and an AR-15 rifle. 41 Sentoris Barnes, the mother of Jaheim, was driving the vehicle. She was taken into custody for being a felon in possession of a firearm and child abuse.

On June 19th at 3:50 a.m., police were called to 940 Faircroft Court for an accident. Jaheim Barnes was the driver. The vehicle had been reported stolen on May 23rd. Thee passengers were injured and Barnes was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Barnes was in the ICU with non-life threatening injuries when at 3:30 p.m., his mother and grandmother, 67 year old Amer Draughn arrived and walked Jaheim out of the hospital without being released.

Police believe this was a coordinated effort to get Barnes out of the hospital before police arrived. He was put inside a waiting vehicle and they took off.
Police located Barnes on July 7th at 1st and A Street at 10 a.m. Barnes was booked for unlawful discharge of a weapon and use of a weapon to commit a felony. More charges are possible. Draughn was also cited and released for accessory to a felony.
