A 58 year old Nebraska City man is recovering after an accident at Highway 43 and Roca Road. Lancaster County Sheriff Terry Wagner says Roger Hoback crossed the center line around 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 1. His 2015 Nissan Altima hit an oncoming semi nearly head-on. The force of the crash knocked the engine out of the vehicle.

Hoback was trapped inside the wreckage and pulled to safety by Bennet Fire and Rescue. He was then airlifted to a Lincoln hospital. Most of the injuries were to his legs but he also suffered broken ribs. He was last listed in critical but stable condition.

Alcohol or other impairments were not factors. He was cited for driving left of center.
