#NILbraska in full effect as college athletes now able to profit

By Kaleb Henry Jul 1, 2021 | 5:52 AM

The era of Name, Image, and Likeness is here, and Nebraska is taking full advantage in the early hours.

Multiple Husker athletes, including Interim Athletic Director Garrett Klassy, shared the #NILbraska image or made posts to social media about the upcoming changes. Nebraska is viewed by many as an industry leader regarding NIL education and opportunity.

The NCAA announced this week that as NIL laws go into effect across several states, rules regarding NIL and amateurism will be suspended until new rules are put in place.

Volleyball All-American Lexi Sun has a new crew neck sweater design available for purchase through her partnership with Ren Athletics. Sun, the most popular current Husker athlete, stands to be one of the most profitable athletes at Nebraska.

Nebrasketball brothers Trey and Bryce McGowens launched episode one of their new podcast “Off Court” right at midnight. It has local sponsors, something that will show not only current athletes what is available, but also recruits how the community is invested in the program.

Besides just athletes at UNL, Runza made an offer to all collegiate athletes in the state for a deal if they advertise for the Runza App on their social media. More businesses are likely to follow suit.

The new NIL Era is not even half a day in, but Lincoln is as busy as anywhere with new opportunities.
