An 80 year old Lincoln man who police say shot and killed his wife is facing a new charge. The Lancaster County Attorney’s Office has filed a first-degree murder charge against John Kotopka in connection with the shooting of his 78-year-old wife inside their home at 18th and Dakota on June 20.
Janet Kotopka, who was suffering from Alzheimers, died three days later. John Kotopka was originally charged with first-degree assault, but charges were upgraded by the county attorney on Wednesday.
