A 28 year old Lincoln man was seriously injured when an artillery shell went off inside a vehicle in the 2000 block of F Street early Thursday morning.

LPD Sergeant Tyler Cooper tells KLIN News around 12:30 a.m. someone called 911 for what they thought was gun fire.  “But as officers arrived a second caller said it was a fireworks explosion.  She had seen a male in the area bleeding profusely.”

According to police the man said he was driving when his 29 year old passenger accidentally lit a firework inside the car. The man was taken to a hospital for treatment and was in stable condition.

The 29-year-old passenger was cited for discharging a prohibited firework.
