A 53 year old woman suffered serious injuries after an encounter with a purse thief around 10:00 Sunday morning in the parking lot of the HyVee at 1601 N 84th Street. LPD says an employee found the woman laying on the pavement outside the store.
The woman told officers she was sleeping in the cab of her GMC pick-up on the far east side of the lot when she heard the door open. The victim reported seeing a man enter the truck and grab her purse. The victim got out of the truck and tried to take her purse back. LPD says as the man got into his vehicle the victim was still holding on to the purse.
The man drove away and dragged the victim along side the vehicle. The woman suffered significant injuries to the leg and was transported to a local area hospital where she underwent surgery.
Officers were able to view video from HyVee that showed a smaller dark colored four door vehicle pull up next to the victim’s vehicle. The video showed the same account of what happened as the victim described. Police say the total amount taken in the theft was around $1,600.
