Lincoln Police have arrested a man who they say tried to steal whiskey and clothing items from the Walmart at 4700 N 27th Street late Wednesday morning. An employee reported that he saw a man take a backpack from the shelf and fill it with Jack Daniels and clothing items and leave the store without paying.
LPD says the employee confronted the man and removed the backpack from him as he ran away from the store. The employee said he knew the man from previous contacts with him. An officer observed Veirs at the U Stop at 17th and Q Streets around 4 p.m. Thursday and learned that he was wanted for this shoplifting case as well as having two outstanding arrest warrants.
When the officer approached 34 year old Kyle Viers and told him he was under arrest, Viers attempted to walk away from the officer. After a brief struggle the officer was able to take him into custody. Viers had two pervious shoplifting convictions and was arrested for felony shoplifting.
He was also booked for resisting arrest, obstructing a police officer and two outstanding warrants.
