Lincoln Police say a 14-year-old boy was taking a swim at Holmes Lake around 5:30 Wednesday afternoon when he felt something at the bottom. “He reached down and felt a handgun and pulled it out of the lake and called police,” says Officer Erin Spilker. “Officers arrived and found the firearm was still loaded, but not reported stolen.”
Police are trying to determine how and why the gun was in the lake. “It’s possible that someone who legally possessed it was fishing and may have just fallen out and they couldn’t find it, maybe someone wanted to get rid of it and didn’t know how to get rid of it and threw it in there or it could be involved in a crime,” Spilker says
