Update: We hope to have updates later today after Lincoln Police say remains found near a lake earlier this week were those of 23-year-old Carly Schaaf, who was reported missing May 19.
Police say the case is being treated as a suspicious death. Schaaf’s body was found Thursday at Pawnee Lake An autopsy identified the body but police said the cause and manner of her death are not known. Carly was reported missing by her mother on May 19th, two days after she was last seen.
The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department says they know the identity of the person is who was found dead Thursday afternoon at Pawnee lake, but it won’t be released until Saturday afternoon.
The sheriff says the family has requested the identity be withheld until Saturday to allow time to contact other relatives and have time to process the discovery of their loved one.
The cause and manner of death is still undetermined pending toxicology results, which could take 4-6 weeks. The west side of Pawnee Lake reopened for recreation traffic Friday afternoon.
