Lincoln Police say a 41 year old woman is facing arson charges after several grass fires were set in and around Oak Lake Park. LPD says on Monday night around 9:30 an officer spotted several small grass fires near Sun Valley Blvd and Charleston Drive.
A passerby also called and reported seeing someone walking away northbound from the fires. Lincoln Fire and Rescue quickly extinguished the flames. About 20 minutes later, officers were called to Oak Lake Park on several fires that had been set around the perimeter the lake.
Officer Erin Spilker says as the officer and Lincoln Fire and Rescue were extinguishing the fires on the southeast side of the lake, they saw new fires starting on the northwest side of the lake. An officer contacted a woman and found several lighters on her and was able to identify her as the person responsible for starting all the fires. “Thankfully, the only damage caused by the fires was to grass and was estimated around $100,” Spilker says.
