Man Accused Of Spitting On Paramedics, Trying To Bite Officers

A Lincoln man is facing a long list of charges after LPD says he spit on on paramedics and tried to bite officers after causing a car crash.  On Wednesday around 3:00 p.m. officers responded to the area of North 48th Street and Y Street on a report of a motor vehicle collision.  Officers talked to a 23-year-old female who advised that she’d been in a vehicle with her ex-boyfriend, identified as 40 year old John Graves II.

The victim told officers she was driving while Graves was the front seat passenger when they began arguing.  She said Graves became upset and yanked the wheel to the right, causing the vehicle to move across to the outside lane and off the road, striking a pole at North 48th Street and Y Street.

After the collision, LPD says Graves got out of the vehicle and punched the back driver’s side window.  As officers contacted Graves, he became enraged, started screaming, and then attempted to charge the victim.  Several officer wrestled Graves to the ground as he continued to resist, as well as attempt to bite the officers.

Officers requested that LFR transport Graves to a local area hospital to be medically evaluated, and while Graves was in the ambulance, police say he continued to scream, thrash around, and spit on the paramedic.  Following medical clearance at the hospital, LPD officers transported Graves to jail, where he continued to be uncooperative, requiring multiple jail officers to restrain and process him for booking.

Graves also spit on a correctional staff member.  Officers booked Graves for Domestic Assault, Criminal Mischief, Resisting Arrest, Obstruction of a Police Officer and two counts of Spitting/Expectorating.
