RB Thompkins enters transfer portal

Another exit from Nebraska football.

A crowded running back room with unsure playing time will be less crowded now that redshirt freshman Ronald Thompkins is in search of a new home. Thompkins made the announcement on social media Wednesday.

“The thing about life is that it is a journey and there are stops along the way,” Thompkins wrote. “Nebraska has changed my life and brought a lot of joy. I’m excited to see where my next stop will be.”

Thompkins did not play in 2019 as he was recovering form an injury suffered in high school. In the shortened 2020 season, he played in two games, carrying the ball five times for 24 yards while adding one reception for 10 yards. Four of those carries and his catch all came in the opener at Ohio State.

The departure of Thompkins does not change the top of the depth chart expectations, with Markese Stepp, Marvin Scott III, Jaquez Yant, and others competing ahead of where Thompkins was slated.

He joins two receivers in having left the program since the Spring Game.
