George Dungan, a Lincoln attorney, announced his candidacy for Nebraska Legislative District #26. Dungan pledged to work for quality education, job creation, public safety, and health care access.
“Folks in our neighborhood haven’t always gotten a chance at fair pay, higher education, or even access to health care. In fact, those of us living north of “O” Street have an average life expectancy of 20 years less than those south of “O,” said Dungan. “I’m running to work for fairness and equality for all Nebraskans, especially my friends and neighbors in Northeast Lincoln.”
Dungan’s priorities include:
– Supporting strong K-12 public education and access to higher education.
– Creating jobs in Northeast Lincoln, especially by promoting manufacturing, technology,
and agricultural businesses to make our community competitive in a global economy.
– Promoting public safety by reducing crime through youth education and employment,
mental health services, and investing in violence prevention programs.
– Health care access: ensuring that people in Northeast Lincoln can get high quality,
affordable health care and insurance coverage.
Dungan, a Democrat, was raised in Lincoln and holds a Juris Doctorate from American
University. He has experience with local government, serving on the Lincoln Pedestrian Bicycle
Advisory Committee and by serving on the Board of Trustees of the Lincoln Bar Association. He
was inducted into the Teammates Hall of Fame for his work mentoring youth. He currently
serves as a Lancaster County Public Defender.
“I started out as a lawyer working with kids in juvenile court. I fought hard to make sure that,
regardless of their past, every single kid I worked with had their voice heard and was given a fair
chance at new opportunities” he explains, “I’m running because I know that we can improve
education and opportunity for the kids I’ve worked with throughout the years, for all of us in
Northeast Lincoln, and for everyone in Nebraska.”
George Dungan lives in Northeast Lincoln with his partner, Britta Tollefsrud, and their dog
