Nebraska adds Fordham as home opener, Drops Southeast Louisiana

By Kaleb Henry May 3, 2021 | 1:09 PM

Nebraska football has finalized the fall 2021 schedule, and Athletic Director Bill Moos finally got that early season home game added.

Moos had talked about such an occurrence multiple times since the 2020 season ended. The program announced the chance Monday afternoon.

Fordham, which plays in the Patriot League, will be Nebraska’s home-opener September 4. The Huskers and Rams have never met before.

“We have been actively exploring opportunities to play a home game on Sept. 4 since our Ireland trip to play Illinois was canceled,” Bill Moos said. “It was important for several reasons to add a September home game. It provides a better flow to the start of our season for our team, and gives us a valuable early-season showcase for recruits. This will also provide our fans and local businesses with a home game on the traditional season-opening weekend.

“We are appreciative of the flexibility of both Fordham and Southeastern Louisiana to make this schedule change possible late in the process.”

The addition of Fordham means the November 13 game against Southeast Louisiana has been dropped. A release from Nebraska says the two schools will continue discussions on possibly rescheduling the game to a later season.
