Baylor on volleyball seniors returning: One on fence, Other “very much in”

A day after a pair of Nebraska volleyball seniors were announced as leaving, some optimistic news about the other two.

Voice of Nebraska volleyball John Baylor told KLIN radio’s LNK Today he is hopeful both Lauren Stivrins and Lexi Sun come back for another season.

“One of those two is very much on the fence,” Baylor said. “I think the other one is very much in for a return.

“Despite all this great freshman talent coming in, Lexi and Lauren can really, really help.”

Baylor adds that if Sun were to return, she could be playing on the right side. She earned AVCA All-America honors the last two seasons playing as an outside hitter.

“When she moves over to the right side for that one rotation she is so effective,” Baylor said. “I think she can make a lot more money (playing professionally) on the right side than the left.”

For three-time All-American Stivrins, Baylor believes she could play all six positions instead of subbing out when rotating to the back row.

“She’s already a pretty good digger,” Baylor said. “Lauren certainly has the talent (to play all the way around).”

Baylor adds that Stivrins playing all six positions and learning to serve would be imperative for her professional hopes due to the pro game allowing less subs, meaning tall players being on the court longer increases their value.

A decision from the two is expected to take a couple weeks into May.
