No spring in 2020, a different season in the fall, and now a different spring in 2021.
Nebraska football coach Scott Frost said on Sports Nightly Wednesday that the team is in on campus, including 14 newcomers. They will begin winter conditioning Monday, which typically lasts seven weeks.
The late start to winter conditioning will push back the 15 spring practices.
“I wanna get a full winter conditioning in before we start spring ball,” Frost said. “It will be the five weeks leading up to the end of April. Planning on having our Spring Game on May 1.”
Nebraska has played the Spring Game in mid-April since the late 1990s after moving to late April in the early 1980s. Prior to that, most were played in May. The last post-April Red-White game was played in 1980, when 20,000 saw Jeff Quinn throw for 105 yards and a touchdown and run for 72 yards and another score in a Red victory.
It is unclear at this point if fans will be allowed to attend the game, though athletic director Bill Moos has been optimistic about having some crowd on hand.
