Lincoln Police are investigating three cases of shots fired at homes or buildings that started at 10 p.m. on January 7th. A woman first called when she heard gunshots at her home at 17th and South Street. Inside were the 21 year old caller, a 2 year old, a 17 year old and a 45 year old. Officers found several gun shots into the house and shell casings in the alley where the shots were fired.
Just before 11 p.m., officers were called to 43rd and Baldwin on a report of gunfire. a 19 year old man was with his 60 year old father and reported he heard several shots into his home. Officers found several bullet holes in the residence and shell casings in the yard in front of the home.
At 11:40 p.m., officers were called to the 100 block of N 27th on a report of more gunfire. Several people reported hearing the gunshots and officers found bullets hit an unoccupied building. Shell casings were found across the street from the building. In all three cases, officers searched the area, processed the scene and requested video from neighbors.
At 12:30 a.m. on January 8th, an officer saw a vehicle in the 300 block of N 2th Street with no license plate. The officer stopped the car and it was determined that the driver, 19 year old Irean Medearis had a suspended license. As officers were processing the vehicle and getting ready to be towed the passenger, 22 year old Dontaiven Drappeaux was acting suspicious as he exited the vehicle. Officers saw a 9mm handgun under the seat where Drappeaux was seated as they were conducting an inventory of the vehicle.
As officers approached Drappeaux about the handgun he took off running from officers. After a short foot chase, officers were able to take Drappeaux into custody. Officers located a fanny pack on his person with several unfired rounds of 9mm ammunition. Drappeaux was arrested for Obstructing a Peace Officer and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.
Investigators will continue to look into any connection between the three shootings as well as if Drappeaux was involved. This investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to call Lincoln Police at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
