The ironman of Nebraska lineman is calling it a career.
Brenden Jaimes announced Monday afternoon that his time at Nebraska has come to a close, as he now looks to a professional career.
“After much thought and prayer,” Jaimes said on Twitter. “I have decided to start a new chapter in my life and prepare for the 2021 NFL Draft.”

Jaimes took over took over a starting spot on the line as a true freshman in the middle of 2017, then never gave it up or missed another start the rest of his time in Lincoln for a school record 40 consecutive starts. Only one other Husker has started 40 or more games on the offensive line: Jeremiah Sirles (41).
“(Jaimes) has been really solid for us. He’s a good player, I think he’s got a good future in football,” coach Scott Frost said Monday at his regular press conference. “He’s been an important piece.”
That important piece will miss the season finale at Rutgers Friday, though he may suit up again before the draft. Last week Jaimes was invited to the East-West Shrine Bowl, which will be a prime spot for NFL scouts.
Likely to replace Jaimes at tackle is Turner Corcoran. Jaimes spoke highly of the freshman earlier this season.
“I think he’ll be a great asset to the team next year, as he is this year,” Jaimes said. ‘Whatever role he fills, I think he’ll be able to do it to the best of his ability. Coach Austin likes him. Coach Frost likes him. So along with all the other young guys, I think they’re doing a great job competing every day in practice. But for him, I think if he has to take that left tackle next year, I’m going to do my best to kind of give him all the advice that the older guys gave me and just pass down a legacy of being a left tackle at Nebraska.”
That advice will come in handy, in what will likely be the first career start for the Kansas native.
“Personally, I think he’s more mature than I was when I was in his shoes,” Jaimes said.
